So Afraid

A love poem reflecting the state of mind of some lovers in the face of taking the step forward in their relationship.

SO AFRAID

 

For some reasons, I cannot comprehend nor articulate,

I have decided to break-up with you and today, now

The problem is not you; it is I, It has always been and will be my fault

I fall in and out of love as soon as it begins, living it all in a moment

But truth be told, my person, I am afraid, so afraid, always afraid

 

Of the concept of love, Of loving you

Of the depth of my love, Of your love for me

Of Commitment, Of intimacy

Of being vulnerable, Of the attraction

Of compromising, Of my feelings and desires

Of my past and future, Of meeting your parents

Of you meeting mine, Of Marriage

Of bearing our child, Of holding your hands

Of the lying, Of the cheating

Of the thoughts of break up out Of the blue.

Of sharing all that is truly me, Of missing you forever

 

Hence, I am breaking up with you before you think about doing it,

I know you will understand cuz roses do get thorns

I wish you good; want you to find someone who is better than i, an angel

Who is not insecure, who will treat you good, cherish and cuddle you always

May love, the gods of love, bring in your fearless fairy, your angel
